Meet John

From the Polish Triangle to Orchard Park to Copley Square to the South End, John Moran wants to represent all residents of Massachusetts House of Representatives’ 9th Suffolk district on Beacon Hill.

For John, every constituent is a neighbor and working to help his neighbors and fighting for what’s right is a lifelong calling.

As a 24-year South End resident with his partner, Michael, and their dog, Edna, decades-long executive leadership experience at three of metro-Boston’s largest companies, and years of affordable housing advocacy with multiple community organizations in the South End and Roxbury, John is ready to lead Suffolk’s 9th District.

John’s story is the story of community.

He was born into a big Irish family based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was raised by his mom and stepfather. They instilled in him the importance of giving back to his community. His mother was an avid volunteer for many organizations. His stepfather was an elected County Tax Collector for over 20 years. Their home was a welcoming place for all in their community. John grew up understanding that living in a neighborhood means giving back to it.

John’s calling to public service began in college at Earlham College. He then made his way to Boston to attend the Fletcher School at Tufts University to study International Business.

A few years later, while working for Bose, he met his future partner, Michael. They made their way to Boston and fell in love with the city the two now call home.

John and Michael were fortunate enough to buy their first home on Waltham Street in the South End as a young couple starting out in their careers. Today, that is becoming less and less of a possibility for young families.

Today, Boston’s income gap is putting many on an unequal, unlivable playing field. But John believes that the 9th Suffolk district, with its strong sense of community and its willingness to work together, can turn the tides on a system that isn’t working for it. He promises to be the leader to accomplish just that.

John will:

  • Fight for more affordable housing ownership and rentals and combat displacement
  • Combat the humanitarian crisis facing so many of our neighbors that are suffering with drug addiction and homelessness
  • Protect Reproductive Justice & LGBTQ+ Rights – Be a champion for the LGBTQ+ community & collaborate with partners to achieve reproductive equity to ensure access to abortion care for all Massachusetts residents
  • Work to build a fair shot for all residents so that no matter your zip code in the district you can send your children to a good school, access green spaces and parks, take public transportation that actually gets you to where you’re going, start and strengthen your small business, and feel safe and able to raise your family in the district

John Moran will lead the 9th Suffolk district, his home, towards better days ahead as its next State Representative.
